ILEP S.A. is committed to operating responsibly, aiming to minimize potential impacts on the environment and biodiversity, as well as to establish mechanisms for monitoring environmental aspects and risks, demonstrating responsibility and respect for the environment and society. Proper environmental management of storage facilities and business processes is one of the most important operational objectives and an essential element for ensuring the sustainability of the company’s activities. This Policy has been developed taking into account the interests of ILEP S.A.’s key stakeholders and applies to all employees, executives, directors, contractors, and representatives. The Policy applies to all employees, executives, and management and is implemented across all operations and business activities.

This Policy is developed to address potential negative and positive environmental impacts, as well as related risks and opportunities.

Potential negative impacts may relate to energy consumption from non-renewable sources and greenhouse gas emissions, water extraction, inadequate waste management, air, soil, and water pollution, as well as disruption of natural habitats.

Potential positive impacts may relate to the provision of products that enable the energy transition, decarbonization, and reduced use of primary resources. The Policy incorporates risks, including physical risks associated with acute and chronic climate change, risks related to environmental violations and subsequent legal disputes and reputational damage to ILEP S.A., as well as opportunities related to products and services. ILEP S.A. is committed to operating responsibly, aiming to minimize potential impacts on the environment and biodiversity, as well as to establish mechanisms for monitoring environmental aspects and risks.

To achieve the above, ILEP S.A. is committed to the following:

Legal framework

  • Operate in full compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations at all levels, as well as ensure adherence to environmental commitments, including operating conditions at the facility level.
  • Develop and implement an Environmental Management System (EMS), and obtain certification based on recognized international standards (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Set targets for environmental management systems, as well as goals for continuous improvement of environmental performance and environmental footprint.

Circular economy & waste management

  • Optimize and increase the use of secondary raw materials to reduce dependence on virgin raw materials, contributing to circular economy goals.
  • Apply circular economy principles, with emphasis on waste minimization, recycling, and the development of new technologies that enable minimal waste generation.
  • Manage operational waste in accordance with circular economy principles.
  • Adhere to the waste hierarchy:

i. prevention,

ii. preparation for reuse,

iii. recycling,

iv. other recovery, and

v. disposal.

  • Prioritize avoidance or minimization of waste generation (reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and reuse) over waste treatment (recycling).

Air, soil, and water pollution

  • Ensure the safe and responsible storage of hazardous substances.
  • Mitigate negative impacts related to air pollution (including non-greenhouse gas emissions), water, and soil pollution, including prevention and control.

Water and marine resources

  • Contribute to the good ecological and chemical status of surface water bodies, as well as the good chemical status and quantity of groundwater bodies, aiming to protect human health, water availability, natural ecosystems, and biodiversity.
  • Recognize that water is a valuable natural resource and that water resources must be conserved and aquatic life protected. Commit to efficient use and minimization of consumption.
  • Prevent further degradation, protect and improve the condition of water bodies and aquatic ecosystems.
  • Conduct water risk assessments to ensure the protection of water sources and ecosystems, aiming to prevent and reduce water pollution arising from the company’s activities, as well as set targets for efficient water use.

Climate change

  • Implement strategies for adapting to the impacts of climate change and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Set and pursue ambitious carbon emission reduction targets covering both direct and indirect emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3).
  • Prioritize sustainable sourcing and use of renewable resources.

Biodiversity

  • Commit to protecting biodiversity and minimizing the impact of operations on ecosystems and natural habitats due to potential climate change or land-use change, including land degradation, desertification, and soil sealing, direct exploitation, invasive alien species, impacts on species status, or pollution.
  • Support traceability of products, components, and raw materials with significant actual or potential impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems throughout the value chain.
  • Handle production, sourcing, or consumption from ecosystems managed to maintain or improve biodiversity conditions.
  • Address social impacts arising from effects on biodiversity and ecosystems.

Incident management

  • Implement a formal environmental incident response plan, including prevention, mitigation, and reporting procedures.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations, ensuring transparency in reporting findings and implementing corrective actions to stakeholders.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Engage in regular dialogue with stakeholders, including employees, regulatory authorities, customers, suppliers, and local communities, on environmental issues and strategies.
  • Participate in industry initiatives and support global sustainability efforts, such as the EU Green Deal and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Encourage suppliers and contractors to adopt environmental principles aligned with ILEP S.A.’s commitments.

Governance and Accountability

Approval and responsibility for the implementation of this Environmental Policy lie with the senior management of ILEP S.A. These executives will ensure that environmental aspects are fully integrated into corporate strategy and operations, with regular oversight by the Board of Directors. ILEP S.A. will establish governance mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, and manage environmental impacts, risks, and opportunities.

Communication and Distribution

It is the responsibility of ILEP S.A.’s management to communicate the content and spirit of this document to all personnel, direct and associated, and to stakeholders. This Policy is published and posted on the company’s website. To enhance awareness, ILEP S.A. will ensure that employees receive adequate training and guidance on environmental management practices, tailored to their roles and areas of influence.
